An Evening with Steve Tyrell & special guest Diane Schuur

Live in Johannesburg

Big Concerts is proud to announce that legendary Grammy award-winning jazz maestros, Steve Tyrell & Diane Schuur will be coming to South Africa in September 2016

Grammy Award-winning vocalist Steve Tyrell is truly a renaissance man. In over four decades in the music business, he has achieved great success as an artist, producer, songwriter, music supervisor, and performer.

With the grit and soul of a lifetime of experiences, producing hits for Grammy-winning Artists ranging from Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville, to Rod Stewart and Diana Ross, Steve himself has sold hundreds of thousands of albums and gained a passionate following all over the world. His hits “The Way You Look Tonight,” “The Simple Life,” “Crush On You” and “The Sunny Side of The Street,” have launched thousands of weddings and millions of romances. He’s held top positions at Standards, Swing, and Big Band outlets with a devoted following at key Adult Contemporary Radio.

As an artist, all 9 of his American Standards albums have achieved top 10 status on Billboard’s Jazz charts, 7 of which have achieved top 5, and his first album “A New Standard” was amongst the bestselling jazz albums for over 5 years.

A leading vocalist in contemporary jazz, Diane Schuur is as eclectic as she is brilliant. Nicknamed "Deedles" as a child by her mother, she grew up surrounded by traditional American jazz, embraced by both of her parents: her father was an amateur pianist, and her mother kept a formidable collection of Duke Ellington and Dinah Washington albums in their home.

Not surprisingly, Dinah Washington is often listed as Schuur's major vocal influence. She learned the iconic singer's "What a Difference a Day Makes" while she was still a toddler and developed her own rich, resonant vocal style at a very young age. Jazziz Magazine writes, “Schuur’s vocal chops move from little-girl innocence to bawdy-mama blues in a hair’s breadth, but always at the service of the song.” Schuur is also an accomplished pianist, accompanying herself on stage and on many of her recording projects.

That distinguished career includes two Grammy Awards (Best Jazz Vocal Performance) for Timeless and Diane Schuur and The Count Basie Orchestra both on GRP Records, the label that launched her career, as well as three additional Grammy nominations for the albums Pure Schuur, Love Songs and individual track The Christmas Song.

Don’t miss your opportunity to see these jazz legends live!

Big Concerts has announced that the Irish female singing sensation Celtic Woman will return to South Africa as part of their ‘Destiny’ Tour.

It’s been more than ten years since Celtic Woman first captured America’s imagination with their self-titled first public television special. That historic concert performance launched a genuine cultural phenomenon, introducing millions of new fans to the group’s fresh fusion of traditional Irish music, contemporary studio craft and state-of-the-art stage production.

Having been named Billboard magazine’s World Album Artist of the Year six times, Celtic Woman is a one-of-a-kind musical entity that showcases gifted young Irish women: world-class vocalists and a brilliant Celtic violinist, whose talent and charisma help to bring centuries of musical and cultural tradition to vibrant life in the group’s recordings and concert performances.

Since their formation in 2004, Celtic Woman has sold more than eight million copies of their nine CDs and eight DVDs, making them the only all-female act to achieve multi-platinum success in the classical crossover and world music genres during the past decade. Each of their nine CDs has debuted at #1 on Billboard’s World Album chart, where the group has occupied the top slot for a record-breaking 112 consecutive weeks. Celtic Woman has also scored two top 10 debuts on Billboard’s influential album chart and five Top Five DVDs on Billboard’s Top Video chart, as well as achieving platinum-level sales in nine countries.

Celtic Woman has also emerged as an international touring powerhouse, selling out concert halls around the world and racking up cumulative sales of over three million tickets.

2015 marked the tenth anniversary of Celtic Woman’s debut CD and DVD releases and the group’s popular concert tours expanded to include recent performances in Australia, Germany, France, Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Japan, China, South Africa and Brazil. With ever-growing worldwide success, Celtic Woman embark on the next chapter of their musical journey with ‘Destiny,’ a new production that celebrates Ireland’s past while bringing a contemporary musical edge to songs old and new in a way that also reflects the vibrant, modern nation that Ireland has become.

The Destiny tour features and entirely new stage production and the all-female ensemble also delivers other timeless traditional Irish songs such as, “Bean Pháidín” and “Siúil A Run,” highlighting the beauty of Ireland’s heritage and its Gaelic language. Alongside newer songs such as “Walk Beside Me” and “The Whole of The Moon,” the show also features reimagined renditions of audience favourites “Amazing Grace” and “You Raise Me Up.”

Singing songs of love, loss, hope and inspiration, Celtic Woman has transcended national and cultural boundaries to celebrate the timeless emotion of Ireland’s centuries-old heritage, extending those vibrant musical traditions into the present day.
